Its current leader, Sir Antonio Pappano, is a Brit of Italian descent best known for combining eclecticism with perfectionism: he delivers the highest quality in every genre and style he touches. After completing his studies in Paris, Seong-Jin Cho won the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2015, at the age of just 21. Although we were initially able only to marvel at the South Korean virtuoso’s records, he was able to personally demonstrate his sensitivity and talent at the Bartók Spring Festival in 2023. The programme of works by Shostakovich, (Symphony No. 9), Prokofiev (Piano Concerto No. 2) and Beethoven (Symphony No. 5) promises tenderness, sincerity and excellence.
