A tárlat nem azt kívánja igazolni, hogy Hokuszai a mai értelemben vett manga „feltalálója” lett volna, hanem azt vizsgálja, miként alakult és változott a „manga” fogalma, használata és jelentése az elmúlt kétszáz év során.
